6 Years of Albarino - What a Ride!

It’s hard to believe that six years ago today, we took a gamble and planted Mudgee’s first (and only!) Albariño vines. At the time, we were in the thick of a drought, with bushfires, wet weather and hail storms to follow. But these little vines? Absolute troopers!

The adventure started when Anna (Yeates) fell in love with Albariño/Alvarinho on a trip to Portugal and brought some home for us to try. It was love at first sip, and with a need to add some whites into the mix, we figured, why not? Our climate looked perfect for it, and Albariño is known for being pretty hardy. Still, it was a bit of a leap, especially since our winemakers hadn’t really worked with it before and nobody seemed to know much about it.

Fast forward to today, and three vintages later, we’ve been so lucky to pick up two trophies and five gold medals this year alone. This has far exceeded our expectations already!

A huge thanks to everyone who’s been part of this journey—from planting to picking, making to sipping. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time to grab a bottle (or two) as there’s not too much left in the cellar. Here’s to wherever Albariño takes us next!
